There was once a school where the community centre now stands. It was built following the 1870 Education Act. It closed as a day school when the present primary school was built just off Upper Wortley Road in 1929. The building continued to be used as the church hall and Sunday School until it was demolished in the 1960s.
In 1966, a new church hall was built at the top of the car park, next to the church yard costing £6,300! It served the local community as home to local groups and the village nursery for over 50 years until 2008 when work began on the new Trinity Community Centre.
